        PROJECT: Arts and Crafts Sofa

This a project made from a plan, in of all places, Popular Mechanics. All the wood is quarter saw white oak (qswo), except for the corbels, which are curly qswo. The finish is a mixture of Cherry and Walnut Watco, top-coated with several coats of General Finish’s ArmRSeal. All the panels and stiles (stiles are tenoned) are set in the dados in the top and bottom rails. The rails and legs are attached with mortise and tenons.

Here we have the sofa, sans cushions; it's almost a shame to hide the wood with those cushions.

Here's the sofa with the seats and pillows, which are Italian leather. The color is a deep burgundy, not the cherry red as may appear here, which was all professionally stitched.

Here's a picture highlighting the rays and fleck and figure of the qwso.

Here's the sofa in relation to the rest of the living room. I purposely chose not to make the sofa the matching color of the bookcase and mantle, although it seems to blend rather nicely.
